The best of the DIRECTV primetime lineup

Today’s Number One Film:

Picture courtesy DC comics*The Dark Knight aka Batman The Dark Knight 9.30pm HBO Family. Watch this if you liked Batman Begins, Watchmen or Sin City. By far the best Batman film made to date, The Dark Knight surpasses the first film of the Christopher Nolan/Christian Bale trilogy, which was itself the best non-animated, non-Frank Miller or Alan Moore depiction on screen of the near anti-hero.

A Trifecta of Today’s Best Films on the Box

As usual, DirecTV leads the way with music television with George-Fest, the all-star celebration of the quiet Beatle’s music (1pm DTV) and the stunning guitar of Gary Clark Jnr (Guitar Centre Sessions, 2pm). For French speakers or Spanish subtitle readers, La Famile Belier (11.30am FoxCin, see “Also Rans”) is the genuine cinefile’s BEST FILM OF THE DAY, clipping both today’s first and second picks, either of which might otherwise have clinched that title. Of course, the purist would, this weekend, opt for the Also Ran “Horror” choice, which might easily have made today’s cut, had it screened on a “real” movie channel.
