The best of the DIRECTV primetime lineup

Either of a couple of music biographies might have got the nod if one had screened a bit earlier (Miles Ahead, 11pm Max) and another a bit later (Straight Outta Compton Director’s Cut, 4.15pm MaxP). Even those who don’t speak Japanese or read Spanish subtitles might be blown away by the visuals of legendary director Akira Kurosawa’s samurai epic Kagemusha BEST FILM OF THE DAY (6.20pm FoxClas).

On paper, A History of Violence remains David Cronenberg’s most marketable film but Eastern Promises may in the long run turn out to be his most profitable, if its availability on pirate DVD shelves is anything to go by.
